Janet (Schalk) Strong

Janet (Schalk) Strong, 91, of Alpena entered into the church triumphant where she now awaits the resurrection of us all,  Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 at home surrounded by her family.

Janet was born in Belknap Township to the late Gerhardt and Iva (Mielke) Schalk November 19, 1929. She graduated from Rogers City High School and then the Saginaw School of Nursing. She married Bob Strong in March of 1952. 

Janet was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She enjoyed golf, gardening, doing stained glass and was a “die-hard” Red Wings’ fan.

Janet is survived by her children, Linda Dolton of Mason, Bobbie (Larry) Cornell of Alpena and Gordon (Robin) Strong of Virginia; her grandchildren, Rob (Jane) Dolton, Patrick (Sara) Dolton, Ken Parsons, Katie (Ben) Strong and Clay (Tiffany) Strong; her great-grandchildren, Nathan, Allison, Emalee, Jack, William and Easton; her stepson, Larry (Linda) Dean; her stepgranddaughter, Kris (Mike) Smith and Asher; her siblings, Carol Wenzel, Deanna (Don) Sellke, Melody (Bruce) Potter, Barbara (Jerry) Koss, Wayne (Linda) Schalk and Gerhardt (Pam) Schalk; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preced

ed in death by her husband of 61 years, Bob Strong; her siblings, Mike, Butch, Chuck and Darwin Schalk, and Donna Clifton; and son in-law, Jim Dolton. 

Family received friends Tuesday, September 28, at McWilliams Funeral Home with a prayer service that evening. Visitation resumed at Immanuel Lutheran Church Wednesday until the time of the funeral service with the Rev. Joshua Schultz officiating. Interment was at St. Michael Lutheran Cemetery in Belknap.
