Arthur “Art” Kalnins

Arthur “Art” Kalnins was called to his eternal home July 2, 2022. He was born June 16, 1937 in Kuldiga, Latvia and was preceded in death by his parents Andrejs and Marija; siblings, Anna, Gunars and Janis; a son, David; and a grandson, Tyler. He is survived by his wife, Diane; a sister, Biruta; children, Mary Ann, Lori, and Kevin and their mother, Janice; stepchildren, Stephanie and Andrew; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arthur and his family survived the struggles of war, immigrating to the United States from Latvia in 1950. Eventually, the family settled in the Edmore area where he graduated from high school in 1956 and upset his mother with the news he was joining the Army. He was proud to serve his “wonderful new country.” Art always had an American Flag hanging at his home.

Arthur worked for the department of public works for the cities of Greenville, Grandville, Reed City, and Essexville and also for Ore-Ida Foods.

Art had a way of leaving a memorable impression on everyone he met. Out of gratitude, he would share bakery goods with people, never forgetting the waste management and recycling employees (Thank you to Duane and Don). Art was truly one of a kind…there will never be another quite like him.

Graveside services will be held at the McBride Cemetery in Day Township at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, with the Rev. Jennifer Lien officiating. A luncheon will follow at Day Bethel Baptist Church, 2181 N. Wyman Road, Stanton, MI 48888.
