Theresa Josephine Heinzel

Theresa Josephine Heinzel, 97, of Grand Lake passed away at home Sunday, May 7, 2023.

She was born in Rogers City July 30, 1925 to Frank and Jennie (Woida) Rygwelski.

Theresa is survived by five children, Gerald (Theresa) Heinzel of Rogers City, George (Sierra) Heinzel of Grand Lake, Gregory (Dawn) Heinzel of Rogers City, Louellen (Phillip) Jozwiak of Rogers City and Karen (Gordon) Altman of Gaylord; 12 grandchildren, Maria (Brady) Petersen, Jene’ St. Amour, Alexander (Morgan Hall) Jozwiak, Michele (Colin) Green, Lindsay (Charles) Cotton, Scott (Lauren) Heinzel, Christine Altman, Joseph Altman, Matthew Altman, Joshua (Amber) Suszek, Jeremy Karsten and Lacey Karsten; 16 great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Ava, Kyla, Aiden, Alivia, Elijah, Devin, Charles, Norah, Kade, Evan, Emmitt, Carson, Logan, Delaney and Gabriella.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles; her sisters, Esther Paul, Virginia Paul and Martina Bauer; and three brothers, Ernest Rygwelski, Eli Rygwelski and Lucian Rygwelski; and a grandson, Kyle Suszek.

On November 24, 1945 she married Charles Heinzel at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Theresa was a member of the St. Ignatius Rosary Society and the Rogers City Women’s Bowl

ing Association where she was in the Hall of Fame. She loved to play wild rummy and watch the Detroit Tigers.

Friends may visit at St. Casimir Catholic Church today (Thursday, May 11) from 10 a.m. through time of her Mass at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Arthur Duchnowicz officiating. Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. for those wishing to attend.

Inurnment will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School Endowment Fund or Hospice of Michigan in memory of Theresa Heinzel.
