Jacquelyn Kay Fairbanks

Jacquelyn Kay Fairbanks, 77, of Rogers City, died the afternoon of Sunday, July 21, 2024, at StoryPoint of Midland. Daughter of the late Donald and Lorraine (Nelson) VanZandt, Jacquelyn was born in Arlington, California, October 12, 1946. After earning her bachelor’s in social work from Michigan State University and her master’s in social work from the University of Michigan, Jackie went on to work for the Rochester School System.

After retirement, Jackie moved back to Rogers City where she remained active sailing, kayaking, snow skiing and volunteering in the community at her Presbyterian Church and the civic group “The Weed Whackers.” There, on July 21, 1990, she married the love of her life, Robert Fairbanks, who preceded her in death February 17, 2023.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jamie (Bruce) Spivey, Mark Bucalos and CJ Bucalos; grandchildren, Parker (Ashley) Spivey and Dr. Claire E. Spivey, DO.; and great-granddaughter, Matilda J Spivey. She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse. 

A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home located at 1200 W. Wheeler St., Midland. Visitation was from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider The Open Door Women & Children’s Center.

Ware-Smith-Woolever is honored the Fairbanks family entrusted them with the care of their loved one.
