Town gets set for festival days in RC

The weather is expected to be spectacular for Rogers City’s premier summer event.

The Nautical City Festival began with the annual sailors’ memorial at Lakeside Park.

The Nautical City Festival’s queen has been crowned, as Isabel Haselhuhn is the new Miss Nautical Coast and her sister Lucy is the Teen Miss, the grand parade’s honored citizens, Dick Adair and Lois Watson, will be ready for their Third Street ride that begins at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, the tent is up and the carnival has rolled into town.

The festival, that is considered a homecoming for those that call it their hometown, is ready for its 2024 run.

“The festival is clearly the largest event of the year,” said Rogers City mayor Scott McLennan volunteering his time on tent set up. “We added events such as art walks, a beer festival, but the Nautical City Festival reigns as the premier event for Rogers City, bringing in thousands of people. It’s people who have lived here all of their life, people that are coming back to visit, and frankly, tourists.

“It’s a great festival, and I dare say, one of the finest run festivals in the state of Michigan.”

Among the highlights today (Thursday) are bingo at the Lakeside Park tent, the Rogers City Area Senior & Community Center s

paghetti dinner and the Interknit event at The Stone House Studio.

There will also be a 1980s theme at the big tent with DJ Tim playing songs from the era and up.

Sunday, Melissa and Jake are the newest band to come to Rogers City and will be under the big top from 4 to 8 p.m.

“Cornhole will have a fun league and a serious league,” said co-director Karen Spens. “Kiddie games have more community organizations bringing activities.”

The Bloody Mary bar was new last year, but will be bigger this year Saturday starting at 11 a.m.

Spens said carnival company, Native Amusements, is new this year and the fireworks Sunday will be longer. The show will begin at dusk Sunday with a rainout date the following week.
