Iva Zemple

Iva Zemple, 99, of Gainesville, Virginia, passed away peacefully August 4, 2024. Iva was born February 22, 1925, in the family farmhouse in Hawks to Louis and Wanda Krueger. She was the oldest child of seven, with two brothers and four sisters. After being educated in a one-room schoolhouse in Hawks through eighth grade, Iva attended and graduated from Rogers City High School in Rogers City in 1943. After high school Iva attended the Detroit School of Business and then worked as a quality control inspector of airplane wings at the Ford Rouge plant in Dearborn during the peak of the World War II mobilization effort.

Iva married Charles Zemple, her high school sweetheart, February 24, 1945, at Columbus Army Airfield, Columbus, Missouri after Charles finished flight school. As an Air Force family, with eventually five daughters, they lived overseas in Nigata, Japan; Prestwick, Scotland; Chateauroux, France; and Ankara, Turkey. Stateside they were stationed at Air Force bases in Mount Holly, New Jersey; Biloxi, Mississippi; Waco and Austin, Texas; Hampton, Virginia; and Fairfax, Virginia. Later in life, Iva worked as a financial manager at the Electronic Equipment Bank in Vienna, Virginia until she retired in 1997. After retiring, she volunteered one day a week at the House of Mercy Food Pantry and Thrift Store in Manassas, Virginia until just before she passed away.

Iva was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings; a granddaughter; and her husband, Charles. She is survived by her sister, Renata Thom of Bradenton, Florida and her five daughters, Karen Kyckelhahn of Mesa, Arizona, Mary Ellen Stoner of Gainesville, Virginia, Janet Florip (Tom) of Southport, North Carolina, Patricia Zemple (Tom McCarthy) of Leland, North Carolina and Nadin

e Mendelsohn (Daniel) of Jamestown, Rhode Island; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 12, from 3-5 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, September 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Rd. Bristow, Virginia. 

 Interment services will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the House of Mercy, 8170 Flannery Court, Manassas.
