Ivan Harold Karsten
Ivan Harold Karsten, 91, of Millersburg, passed away peacefully at home September 15, 2024.
Ivan was born December 3, 1932, in Moltke Township to Arnold and Eleanor Karsten.
Ivan enlisted in the United States Army in 1953. He served with the Second Armored Division “Hell on Wheels,” and qualified as a sharpshooter on the M-1 rifle. He was stationed in Germany, where he served as a cook. Upon his return, he met and married the love of his life, Jeanette Kay Gall, December 28, 1957. Together they operated a dairy farm in Moltke until 1991. Ivan then spent 15 years working for the Presque Isle County Council on Aging and enjoyed delivering “Meals on Wheels.” Ivan was a lifelong Detroit Tigers’ fan. He also enjoyed playing baseball in the Top of Michigan League. He and Jeanette loved dancing and were members of a German dance club.
He is survived by five children, Deanna (Rick) Milligan of Lansing, Jane (John) Zielaskowski of Rogers City, Glenn Karsten of Bay City, Owen (Joan) Karsten of Rogers City and Aaron (Melissa Mooney) Karsten of King George, Virginia; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Patrick and Paul Milligan, Talon Wooster, Danielle Zielaskowski, Rebecca (Matt) Adams, Avery and Odin, Kaycee (Justin Lopez) Karsten, Khloe and Khyra, Kelly (Brent) McMullen and Ashton, Sydney (Geovanny Hernandez) Stambler, and Rosalie, Nora and Sally Karsten; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ivan was preceded by in death by his wife, Jeanette, December 10, 2023; and his siblings.
A private family internment will be held at a later date.
