Melvin “Mel” Paul Plume
Melvin “Mel” Paul Plume passed away peacefully August 14, 2024 at Medilodge of Rogers City.
Mel was born March 5, 1939, to Archibald and Angeline (Lewandowski) Plume. He was one of 11 children in the house on Petersville Road. Mel graduated from Rogers City High School in 1957 and went directly into the U.S. Army, serving until 1959 in the Marne 3rd Infantry Division Automatic Rifle Team. This enabled him to travel throughout Europe honing his sharpshooting skills, earning many competition trophies of which he was very proud.
On May 14, 1960, Mel married Dale Wheeler of Rogers City and also started his career at Calcite (U.S. Steel) Plant. Being an avid outdoorsman, he was so fortunate to live and work in an area that he so loved.
Mel is survived by Dale, his wife of 64 years; a daughter, Lisa (Paul) Gauden of Petoskey; a son, Neil (Carolyn) Plume of Burlington, Washington; three grandchildren,
Mel was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elmer, Ed, Jim, Joe and Richard; and sisters, Mary and Ida.
Mel requested no services, but please share a memory and enjoy the great outdoors. He will be there.
