Walter “Walt” Edward Wenzel Jr.

Walter “Walt” Edward Wenzel Jr., 90, of Rogers City passed away peacefully at Hillman Haven September 30, 2024. 

He was born in Detroit to Walter and Olga (Miller) Wenzel July 12, 1934. 

Walt enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War, he was ho

norably discharged June 13, 1956. On January 25, 1958 he married Barbara Eckhardt. Walt worked as a deputy for the Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Department from 1978 until retiring as a sergeant in 2000. He continued serving the citizens of Presque Isle County as a veterans’ counselor for many years following. 

Walt is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Rick Berg of Rogers City.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, February 29, 2024. 

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home Friday, October 4, from 4 – 6 p.m. Honors and burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Memorials may be given to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Walter Wenzel.
