Joy Viola Karsten

Joy Viola Karsten, 88, of Moltke Township passed away February 14, 2020 at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey surrounded by her family.

She was born July 22, 1931 in Rogers City to Alfred and Eva (Woehlert) Boehmer.

On August 28, 1948 she married Walter Karsten Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moltke. Joy enjoyed spending time in her gardens and making quilts for Lutheran World Relief. 

Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. She was always up for celebrations.

Mrs. Karsten is survived by two children, Jean (Ron) Horrocks of Onaway and Myron (Dianne) Karsten of Dewitt; three grandchildren, Amanda Karsten, Corrine (Tom) Richter and Brian (Sammy) Karsten; four great-grandchildren, Lorenzo, Madaline, Brooklyn and Ava; and many nieces and nephews.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Walter May 24, 2004; four brothers, Alfred Boehmer, John Boehmer, Val Boehmer and David Boehm

er; four sisters, Ruth Boehmer, Dorothy Weeks, Elizabeth Sweeney and Esther Johnson.

Friends visited at the Beck Funeral Home Tuesday, February 18, from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. 

Visitation resumed Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moltke from 10 a.m. until time of her funeral at 11 a.m. with the Rev. J. Derek Riddle officiating.

Burial will take place in the spring at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. John Lutheran School or McLaren Hospice in memory of Joy Karsten.
