A carpenter by trade, Norman retired in 1998 from Hinsdale Hospital in Chicago where he had worked as a construction supervisor for many years. After retiring, he and Edie move to Onaway where Norman and his son, Larry, worked on small construction and remodeling projects with their company, Luttman and Son Construction. Strong in their faith, Norman and Edie were very active in the Onaway Seventh-day Adventist Church. Using his carpentry skills, Norman was quite involved with the construction of the new church in Onaway and can be credited with much of the finish carpentry. Throughout his lifetime, wherever he lived, Norman was always active in the church he belonged to. Through the years he served as head elder, Sabbath schoolteacher, Pathfinder leader, as well as serving on construction committees and being involved with building and remodeling projects.

Norman loved his family deeply. A proud father, Norman was patient, understanding and forgiving. As a young family the Luttmans enjoyed traveling throughout the United States staying in the truck camper Norman built. They had many adventures and enjoyed spending time together. He nurtured his children, teaching them to be good, honest, hardworking people.

More importantly, Norman shared his faith with his children and led them to the Lord.  He also shared close relationships with his siblings and was especially close to his little sister, Leona. Smitten with Edie from the first moment he saw her until she took her last breath, Norman had a tremendous amount of love, admiration, and respect for his wife.  When he talked about Edie, his eyes would light up and he would smile as he told about her beautiful blue eyes, her musical talents and what a wonderful homemaker she was. He liked to share stories of Edie playing the piano for the men’s chorus group he sang with in Chicago. Norman was kind, soft-spoken and had a gentle way.  He always wanted to help others, be a positive influence in their lives, and was able to see the good in people. He had a good sense of humor, laughing easily and often and was quick with a smile for a friend or stranger. Beside woodworking, Norman enjoyed fishing and playing golf. Truly a gentleman, Norman’s kind and loving demeanor will be sadly missed and always remembered.

Surviving Norman is his daughter, Linda (Ken) Amstutz of Pinc

kney; two grandchildren, Andy (Megan) Amstutz and Jessica (Jerry) Campbell; four great-grandchildren; sister, Leona (Carl) Peterman of Onaway; and nieces, nephews and friends.
