An avid outdoorsman, Tony loved to hunt deer and small game, but fishing was truly his passion. He was happy to wet a line anywhere, anytime. He loved fishing at Tower and Kleiber Pond, Black Lake and on the Black River. In South Dakota he fished the streams of the Black Hills and frequently fished the reservoir at Orman Dam.  It may have been the excitement of having a fish on the line, the relaxation of a quiet day on the water, or the chance to enjoy quality time with family or a friend, but whatever the case, Tony was happiest with a fishing pole in hand.  Besides fishing, Tony enjoyed cooking. He made delicious homemade pizza as well as an apple pie that was out of this world. Tony, himself, enjoyed his apple pie so much he always baked two – one that he would eat and one to share.  He also enjoyed raising his chickens and loved his big dog, Buddy.

Giving and caring, Tony always defended the underdog and would help anyone in need. He was a bit of a prankster who loved to tease all in good–hearted fun. Tony will be sadly missed by his son, Chance Mason, of Onaway; m

other, Nettie Marsh, of Black Lake; sisters, Debby (Leon) Nash of Onaway, Jude (Rod) Morgan of Black Lake, Theresa (Tim) Lietaert of Tower and Connie Aown of Hartland; brothers, Terry (Therese) Mason of Suttons Bay, John (Lisa) Mason of Gillette, Wyoming and Joe Mason of Tower; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Tony was preceded in death by his father, Delano “Fats” Mason; and his brother-in-law, Rich Aown.

A graveside service was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tower Friday January 15, followed by a Celebration of Life at Tower Hall.

The Rev. James Brabson officiated the graveside service. Those planning an expression of sympathy please consider helping Tony’s family with a donation for final and medical expenses.
