Deloris Louise Dunsmore, “Dottie”

Deloris Louise Dunsmore, “Dottie,” 92, of Tower, went home to be with the Lord Thursday March 4, 2021 at Medilodge of Rogers City.  Born September 25, 1928 in Tower, Dottie was the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Bernia) LaForest. Affectionately called “Little G” by her grandchildren, Dottie was tiny in stature but enormous in spirit.  She was a great cook and baked the best apple pies, blackberry cobbler and homemade bread.  It was amazing how strong her miniature little hands were when she was kneading bread dough which, by the way, she made frequently until she was well into her 70s. She enjoyed flower gardening and was a talented artist skilled in oil and acrylic painting. She was known for her painted Christmas bulbs that she always gave as gifts and sold by special order.  Strong in her Christian faith, Dottie attended church at His Word Christian Fellowship in Tower.

Through the years Dottie attended sporting events for her children, then her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved watching the kids play in their sports and became well-known to everyone at the games.  With her friendly disposition and feisty personality, everyone loved Dottie and she became “Little G” to everyone she met.

Best described as loving and nurturing, she not only was a mom and a grandma to her children and grandchildren, but also to the friends of her children, the friends of her grandchildren, neighbors, friends, and even the other residents at Medilodge.  Caring and concerned for everyone she knew, as well as those she didn’t know, mothering came naturally to Dottie.

Dottie loved her family with all her heart and enjoyed a special bond and close relationships with each one. The in-laws, were not in-laws to Dottie, they were all her kids. As much as she loved her family, they loved her too.  A special lady who is truly unforgettable, she will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her son, Dale (Debbie) Dunsmore of Burton; three daughters, Darleen (Pat) Kennedy of Tower, Debbie (Dave) Coon of Grand Blanc and Denise (D

an) Miller of Rogers City; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; as well as her sister and best friend, Marion Horton of Onaway and nieces and nephews. Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; a brother, Joe LaForest; and a sister, Corrine Waldie.

Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. today (Thursday March 11) at the Chagnon Funeral Home. Dottie’s grandson, the Rev. Lucas Miller, along with the Rev. David Tuggle will officiate Dottie’s private funeral service. Dottie’s final resting place will be in Tower at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
